Art Project: Broken Glass

I've mentioned somewhere that in my 7th grade year of Middle School (2010-2011) a drawing of mine was submitted to the Meritas Art Contest. Now, Meritas is a family of (ten) schools worldwide. I attended Lake Mary Preparatory school, which is part of Meritas.

Anyways, enough rambling about that. I believe the Meritas Art Contest began in 2008. It's pretty self explanatory; pieces of art are selected from grades K-12 (grouped, of course) in each of the Meritas schools and entered in the contest. The gallery is online, here: [link]

Anyways, in the 2010-2011 year (you can click on it) I made it into the competition for an art class project regarding Value. For those of you who don't know the art term, Value refers to the lightness or darkness of a color. In the assignment us students were to divide a sheet of white paper into multiple triangular segments and shade each one like so. I went the extra mile and drew several dozens of fragments, delivering the image of broken glass.

At the time I did not know of the contest, or that any really good piece could be entered into the contest. It was only until my art teacher told me later in the year that my drawing had been selected that I found out about the whole thing. I was surprised, unsurprisingly.

It was difficult, I'm telling you. I had two weeks, a lot of other sh-schnitzel to deal with, and a very un-supportive collection of classmates. I guess most people just do the minimum at minimal work level and get it done quick, at least when it comes to these things. I'm serious, there were many "setbacks" due to my peers, including me having to restart the drawing. Thankfully I used to have a great art teacher back then, so I was able to complete this.
